Very sad, I like The Specials and Fun Boy Three despite them being a little before my time. I always thought he seemed a bit haunted and only just read about that horrible abuse he suffered at the hands of one of his teachers.

Very sad saw them at Brixton on their come back tour ( no gatecrashers ) and they were brilliant, in my opinion " ghost town" is possibly one of the best records ever made by a British band .

Was lucky enough to meet him outside the 100 where he was DJ support for Squeeze, had a photo where he looks classically nonchalant but was actually the complete opposite. As I put on the other thread, Virgins & Philistines is a masterpiece and I still play it to death these days.

Gutted.
Specials one of fav bands (along with Madness). The whole two tone thing summed up the youth feeling at the time. And Ska is timeless.
You may be out of the rat race now, but you’ll never be forgotten.

Yeah Echo what Violator said... had a decent chat and our lot got a few photo's with him... was with him 20 mins or so and was great company... very funny bloke... he played a great set that night and thanked him on playing Silly Games by Janet Kay a song I had not really heard since my childhood... sounded bloody brilliant being blared out in a packed hot sweaty club...
First band I saw ... and even maybe 100 odd gigs since them I don't think I have ever seen a group with as much anger and energy as them... quite magnificent live ... were still very good when they reformed 10-15 years ago or whenever it was but the anger and energy was missing (as you imagine it would be)... more of a celebration than a youth protest... boy o boy were they good...

Just reached my teens when 2-Tone came about.....it was perfect! Terry Halls sound & demeanour was a big part it.....he has literally died much too much, much to young.....feeling proper sad.....a bit of my wonderful youth has died and it was wonderful partly down to his music.
